Celebrating Nigeria: A Special Presentation By Onen-Bassey David, A Basic Three Pupil
Nigeria Independence Day
What is Independence?Independence means being free to govern ourselves without being controlled by another country.
Nigeria was once ruled by the British. After many years of struggle and negotiations by Nigerian leaders, Nigeria became an independent country on 1st October 1960.On that historic day, the British flag was lowered, and the Nigerian flag was raised. Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa became Nigeria’s first prime minister.
Nigeria is 66 years old today, because we gained independence in 1960.
We celebrate Independence Day every year on 1st October to remember our freedom, honour the people who worked for our independence, and celebrate the unity, strength, and achievements of our great country.
As Nigerians, we should love our country, respect one another, obey the law, and work together to make Nigeria a better place.
Happy Independence Day to all Nigerians!
Long live Nigeria!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
